Ruthie's Story..
Ruthie was rescued from the San Bernardino shelter on October of 2015. Her demeanor was that of a fearful and terrified dog, scared of her surroundings. She was covered in ticks and fleas with her weight being 69 lbs. Even though her weight was 69lbs, she looked extremely malnourish for her size. Ruthie was picked from the shelter by her foster parents, who immediately took her to get bathed.
Ruthie was slowly integrated into her new foster home and was introduced to her foster siblings, a 2-year-old pit bull male and a 1 year pit bull female. It was a very slow process because she displayed anxiety around the dogs, new surrounding or new experiences.
Her anxiety and/or nervousness leads to reactiveness toward the female dog and causes self-harm. For the most part, she gets along with her foster siblings; she still struggles to calm down around new situations. Ruthie is now 4 years old and very healthy, weighting 81lbs. Ruthie was put through training with a professional dog trainer. After 14 sessions of training, she has improved, but stills displays anxiety. Ruthie thrives as a single dog at home. Ruthie does amazing on long hikes and walks, but her forte is cuddling.
The current foster parents have had Ruthie under our care for almost a year and we know she’s a very loving and can be a calm dog, especially when the other dogs are not around. Also, she’s a total couch potato, but is ready for a walk or hike at anytime.
